* movement comes from the body's center just below the navel

* abdominal muscles should be toned not tense
* learning about abdominal fitness requires learning to sense the core and create awareness from the inside

Loveliness for Snow Bunnies!
Tuesday, December 11, 2007 – Time 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Fee $25

Come enjoy an evening of hanging out with the girls, seeing old friends and making new ones. Delve daringly into your loveliness. Sorry guys, this is for ladies only!

According to Chinese medicine, winter is the season of the water element. It is the end of all seasons, a time for introspection and receptivity. The cold and darkness of winter drive one to seek inner warmth. It is a time to rest, meditate deeply, refine spiritual essence, and store physical energy. The affiliated emotion is fear.

Hear readings on how we, as women, are spiritual beings and how releasing fear is a necessity to finding our true self. We will discuss the importance of Meditation and Meditative Yoga, dietary therapy and herbal supplementation for the season. Create breath awareness to reduce stress, stabilize the heart rate, and regularize blood pressure as well as improve concentration, and strengthen and detoxify the body. We will practice yoga to release the low back, hips and reproductive areas.

Come join us as we find our loveliness. We will teach you how to bring mindfulness into caring for ourselves using two powerful alternative healing modalities - Chinese medicine and yoga - to balance hormones and emotions. This balance helps us to feel fulfillment, security, self-awareness, and confidence. When a woman knows that she is complete in herself, all of the people around her enjoy the benefits. Come join us on our journey to find balance; revive stagnant energy; and relax the mind, body and spirit through yoga and Chinese medicine.

Women love to relax with other women. We love to talk and get to know each other. Come relax and talk with us!

The class will be taught by Jill Neukam M.S., Lic. Acu and Kamie Slegers B.S., yoga instructor, personal trainer.

Reiki I
CANCELED: Fall or Winter 2007
REIKI COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Melanie Williams, Reiki Master Teacher
507-345-3619; e-mail: mjwilliams85@hotmail.com

Beginning with a mother’s calming hand on a crying child, touch is an instinctive means of relieving pain, and one that we use throughout our lives. Reiki – meaning “universal life energy” – is a unique touch healing system from Japan. Reiki promotes healing for a wide variety of physical and emotional symptoms by balancing one’s energy and activating the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Today Reiki is gaining recognition as a powerful integrative therapy – being used in hospitals, hospice settings, chemical treatment programs, pain clinics, mental health work, etc.

Reiki is a simple technique to learn, and is taught in four separate levels: Reiki I, Reiki II, Reiki III, and Reiki Master.

Basic level includes history and introduction to Reiki. Students learn where to place hands for self-treatment as well as treatment of others. Each student receives an attunement which raises the vibratory level of the student’s energy field, making it possible to direct energy through the hands. Time for hands-on practice is included.

Pre-requisite: Student needs to have been recipient of at least one full Reiki session.
Text: Reiki Energy Medicine by Barnett & Chambers
Fee: $175 (book purchase is student’s responsibility)
Class time: two 3-hour blocks

Trigger-Ball Release Workshop
Time and date to be determined

The trigger point is a hard, tender "lump" in the body of a muscle. It may be as small as a pinpoint or as big as your thumb, and is tender to pressure. The trigger point is characterized by intense contractile activity in the absence of nerve excitation. (Like a muscle with a cramp, but in a small area). Tennis ball technique is usually most effective in the muscles of the back and the hips: places where you can lie on the tennis ball, pinching it between the ground and your body. The key to successful tennis ball technique is to achieve a "release" by applying just the right amount of pressure: enough to do some good, but not enough to irritate the knot.  This is the "release", or a "melting" of the knot and can take anywhere from ten seconds to several minutes.

Yin Yoga Workshop
Time and date to be determined

The practice of Yin Yoga addresses the more yin parts of the body. These parts lie close to the core, specifically the bone and connective tissue above the knees and below the navel. The postures are all practiced on the floor and are held for a significant period of time, usually around three to five minutes. The reason for holding the poses so long is to give the connective tissue time to be relaxed with an attitude of quiet expectance. By putting ourselves in a safe and controlled pose, we can relax the muscles around the areas we are working, allowing the connective tissue to be gently and safely maintained. This workshop will take you deeper into the practice of Yin Yoga. You will learn why Yin Yoga is important in our yang society and how we are all built differently.

Yoga Nidra Workshop
Time and date to be determined

Yoga Nidra literally means "Yoga sleep". It explains the highest state of consciousness, but you are actually awake in a state of deep introversion. It has also been designed to create a state of deep relaxation. In the beginning of the practice, the process involves relaxing the body, part by part, and creating a calm centered mind and creating an inner awareness. You cannot relax by trying to relax. You need to feel relaxed. Yogis also believe that you cannot relax your body unless your mind is relaxed. So, Yoga Nidra relaxation is a complete package of relaxing the mind, body and spirit.

Learning to truly know ourselves means looking deep into our own nature and the nature of everything around us. This brings us away from the drama and into the wonderful life that is intended.

Discover your true self and learn to experience greater independence and spiritual growth by replacing negative thoughts and old feelings with new powerful ideas that help you to grow. Learn to look at lives challenges as challenges to learn and to grow from, not obstacles that keep us from enjoying life.

In this series of workshops we will learn seated and walking meditations, breathing techniques, and learn the practice of "seeing" every action and challenge as an opportunity to grow. Class Descriptions

Our studio teaches freestyle flow classes to accommodate students of all skill levels. We welcome anyone who is seeking to deepen their practice or experience yoga for the first time, and encourage students to take each class to their own level. For more information on any of the class offerings listed below, please contact us.

Yoga for Stress - Yoga can bring a much needed quiet, peaceful energy into our demanding daily lives. Meditation helps calm your mind, teaching you to relax and giving you a quick mental vacation whenever you need one. This extra gentle "restful and restorative" class uses slow, meditative asanas (poses) to give/bring you a sense of calmness and deep relaxation. The class is designed to allow for an effortless release of stress, tension, and anxiety. By fully supporting the body with props, an effortless letting go of stress, tension, and anxiety can be achieved. The breathing exercises you will learn can be done anytime and anywhere you start to feel stressed out. Beginners are welcome.

Beginning Yoga - This gentle class will revitalize the body and mind through gentle asanas (yoga poses), relaxation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation to help balance your life and reduce stress. We will incorporate slow, meditative asanas that are held for a period of time in order to bring a sense of calmness and deep relaxation. This is a non-vinyasa class designed for beginners as well as anyone who is looking for stress relief.

Lunar Flow - This evening yoga class offers a very different style of flow than vinyasa flow. Come and experience a calm and fluid class given in a slow connective pace for a wonderful lunar experience. This class is open for beginners as well as long time practitioners of yoga.

Beginning Vinyasa - This is a mixed level class which introduces the sun salutations and prepares students for more challenging classes. The vinyasa or flow is what makes this class a little more challenging but the class still includes basic Hatha poses. Beginners are welcome.

Solar Flow - This morning yoga class involves movement that is similar to the flow of the vinyasa class. We will start the class with Hatha Sun salutations and asana practice, and end with meditation and pranayama. Relax, stretch, and let go. Hatha or "posture" yoga reconnects you with the pleasures of movement and stillness.

Intermediate Vinyasa - In this class we will work on more challenging poses in addition to the regular flow of the beginning vinyasa class. This class may include hand balances. Beginners please contact the studio before attending.

Advanced Vinyasa - This is a freestyle flow class with a good mixture of strength, flexibility, balancing, pranayama (breath work), and meditation. Vinyasa is based on the Ashtanga style of yoga, using Ujjayi pranayama to heat the body, focus the mind, and move through vinyasa (flow). In the flow, we add hand balances and other difficult asanas. This class is challenging and is not designed for beginners.

Practice Information

Arrive Early - Allow 10 minutes to sign in and settle down. Use this time to center yourself and focus your thoughts. If you are new, please allow additional time to fill out information.

Prior to class, please inform the instructor of any medical conditions or injuries you may have or if you are pregnant. The instructor will give you the proper modifications for the poses.

Refrain from eating a meal 2 - 3 hours before class. Give your body time to digest your food. A full stomach can lead to sickness, nausea, dizziness, or stomach cramps. A full stomach also promotes lethargy as digestion takes energy away from the rest of the body.

Please leave cell phones and pagers in your car. Use this time to release yourself from the hustle and stress of life. Make arrangements with the instructor if you are waiting for an important call.

Avoid smoking before class or wearing perfume/cologne to class. Be considerate of others in class who may be sensitive to scents.

Yoga mats are provided for your use, but please consider bringing your own. If interested, mats are available for purchase at the studio.

Please bring your own towel. If you perspire heavily, use the towel to prevent slipping.

Consistent practice ensures consistent benefits. For best results, practice 3 - 5 times a week, either at the studio or your own personal practice.

Yoga is not competitive. Some days are better than others. Listen to your body and know your limitations. Also, enter into the appropriate class level for your practice.

Help keep the studio neat. Neatly place props and mats that you have used back in their designated areas.

Take only what you need into the studio. Place shoes and extra clothing in the appropriate areas.

Monitor your water intake during class. Drink enough water to remain hydrated but be mindful that too much water can lead to stomach cramps. Also, drink plenty of water after class to rid the body of toxins.

For one on one or small group prices see instructor.
